I never wrote an article in Italian on my blog, by choice. Because ‘the goal of the blog is to achieve most of the possible people to exchange experiences and share various thoughts / observations that are part of my daily work in the world of sport science.
Thanks to this means I have collected and shared with many people in various parts of the world my experiences and my points of view and in many cases this sharing has generated further discussions and insights and in some cases forms of collaboration. Writing a blog takes time, but it’s a way to reflect aloud in a virtual square and is perhaps even a way to put on paper in an organized way Thoughts and observations that would otherwise remain in the head.
Today I decided to write in Italian, to be sure that what I am about to write is read and can be shared in the nation where I was born and maybe it may be of a stimulus and reflections for so many young people who approach the sport and less young people there are already in.
In my career I was really lucky to meet fantastic athletes, coaches and colleagues who have contributed not only to enrich my cultural baggage and experiences, but they have also left life teachings and examples that have contributed to my “grow” not only from Professional point of view. Name and thank them all by name would be a big risk, because surely I would forget someone and therefore I avoid the long lists I hope no one feels “less important” after reading this article.
The article in Italian was determined by the fact that today at the Olympics of Rio an athlete with which I had the pleasure of working has just finished playing his last game and from tomorrow he will dedicate to his new life away from the fields Played. The athlete in question is my friend (I allow myself to call her friend after many hours passed to the gym and some on the sand) Antonella del Core.

Antonella Ends today a very long journey started with the race (she had started as an obstacorist) and continued luckily at the volley fields around the world. When I worked with her in Naples and in the experience of the beach he was at the beginning of a career that was then detected fantastic, but it was already clear that this nice girl of Naples had so much character and the most important talent (a My opinion): a desire to improve day by day with the training that were out of the ordinary.
After so many years of work in sport, I can say that the best talent that many samples (the real ones, not those of “cover”) in different sports have and ‘the will to become better every day working hard. And Antonella certainly owns this “talent” that has shared and matured with another athlete who had these characteristics (his teammate and beach Caterina de Marinis with which he won the Italian Beach title in 2000, another athlete and identity Fantastic who will never stop training and learning something in the volleyball). And I’m sure she will use her talented by her tomorrow in other aspects of her new life away from volleyball played.
De-del Champions of Italy (COACH MARCOVECCHIO)
After the years of Naples, he took the suitcase in his hand and volleyball brought her to play and win trophies in Italy, Turkey and Russia as well as numerous victories with the Italian national team and numerous personal prizes (if you are curious, you can read the Palmares here). Non-simple sacrifices considering distances from family and affected and above all taking into account the hours of training and activities’ related to volleyball expenses in supposedly twenty years as a professional. The last time we saw of Identity was in London in the Caffe ‘of the Olympic Village, I was very happy with the trend of the Olympics for the team with which I worked (British Olympic Committee) and you least happy with sporting results and attention “Gossip” of the Italian press. We remembered the old days and we reflected about how lucky we are working in a sector that allows us to travel and learn about new things and people supposedly every day, but we also remembered the renunciations that are done to be able to excel in sport (both as a athlete and As a technician / support staff, etc.) and how many do not realize how behind a successful means hide insecurities, lots of work, failures and sacrifices. We also talked about how the press is not very interested in the sports aspect in women’s sports but mainly deals with aesthetic aspects or gossip, diminishing sacrifices and results of women with stories that could and should represent driving models for many.
Antonella RisPItaly that we all wanted. That of the people working hard and honestly with passion can get incredible results. That of sacrifices and courage to face difficulties with work away from spotlights. Italy that is magnanima in the victories and who knows how to accept the defeats using them to improve. His sporting history (and that of many other Italian sports women) should be taken in model and taught and used as an example for young people. To ensure that even in sectors far from sport some children or child can dream and believe in the possibility of achieving incredible goals working hard and applying and accepting that path accidents can contribute to growth and becoming better. Convenore rare stories in a glossy world full of fake life models that give little importance to know how to make and need to learn and improve.
The Italian sport is full of stories of women like Antonella del Core, the trouble is that unfortunately the day after the end of their sporting career these women often end up in oblivion.
The hope is what stories like that of the girl of Naples who won a lot around the world are from example for the new generations and that athletes like Antonella have the chance to continue their contribution in sport where they were successful and in Schools that are our hope to improve our country.
In Antonella I make the best wishes for the future and I hope to see it soon. At the Italian sport and at the school I remember that there are many ex-athletes parked in the forgotten that they would have so much to teach new generations and my wish is that someone occasionally remember them and can create opportunities to treasure their teachings and of the Their life stories.
